About Mysore

Mysore is the third largest city in the southern state of Karnataka. It is located approx 146 km southwest of the state capital Bangalore and is spread across an area of 128.42 km. Mysore is known for its palaces, the most famous being the Mysore Palace, and for the festivities that take place during the Dassehra festival when the city hosts a large number of tourists.

It lends its name to the Mysore style of painting, the sweet dish Mysore Pak, the Mysore Peta (a traditional silk turban) and sarees made from Mysore silk. Tourism is a major industry here, while Information Technology has emerged as a leading employer in recent years.

Mysore has an excellent rail and bus network for inter-city transport and is among the cleanest cities in the country.  It also houses the Mysore University, which has produced several notable authors in the field of Kannada literature. The cultural ambience and achievements of Mysore earned it the title of Cultural Capital of South Karnataka.

Demographics:

As per the 2011 census, Mysore district had a population of approx 2,994,744 people. Jenu Kuruba, Betta Kuruba, Paniya and Panjari Yerevas and Soligas are some of the ethnic groups also found in Mysore district.

Transport & Infra:

Mysore is connected by a network of highways to cities like Gundlupet, Bengaluru, Kote and Madikeri. Within the city, buses are a cheap and popular means of transport, while autorickshaws and tongas (horse-drawn carriages) are also popular. Mysore railway station has three lines which connect it to Bengaluru, Hassan and Chamarajanagar. The city also has a 42.5-kilometre long ring road that is being upgraded to six lanes by the MUDA.

Mysore railway station has three lines which connect it to Bengaluru, Hassan and Chamarajanagar. The first railway line established in the city was the Bengaluru-Mysore Junction metre gauge line, which was commissioned in 1882. All trains that connect Mysore are operated by South-Western Railway Zone, Hubli of Indian Railways.

Realty Bytes:

There are about 35-odd players in the construction sector in Mysore with nearly 100 residential projects in varying stages of completion, catering to the steady demand for apartments within city limits.

Known for its quaint row houses with ample space, changing preferences and rising property prices have now put such homes out of the reach of the predominant middle-class buyer. As per local consultants, Mysore is an end-user market with a preference for ready-to-move-in projects.
